contagion

Contagion is a movie about the spread of a contagious virus. It was not a popular movie when it was released in 2011. After the pandemic of the COVID-19 this year in 2020, the movie has regained its popularity. 

By Jun, 2020, when I watched this movie, I am already familiar with the followings: 

• The lockdown of the cities
• The high population and busy transportation are the major factors for virus spread
• The looting that may happen due to the scarcity of the food because of lockdown. 
• The saints and sinners under test. 
• The development of vaccine 
•  

The up-beating music is very special and the way it tells multiple stories in a movie is quite amazing too. 

What happened in the movie is what’s happening now, in China, in USA, in Europe, and other parts of the world. 

When the film writer Scott Z. Burns was interviewed by Variety about the film’s resurgence and similarities to the active pandemic in March 2020, Burns said:

Every scientist who I spoke to when I worked on the movie said that exact same thing to me: It’s not a matter of “if,” it’s a matter of “when.” You can decide that most of the time, firemen are just sitting around. But it’s very hard to start a fire department once your house is on fire. And so the notion that we’re going to cut these things and we’ll just try to rebuild them when we need them is foolish and dangerous. I was very aware that our Department of Homeland Security had a pandemic team standing by because this is a real threat.
