This movie is about a dog and his master.
In 1913, In Alaska, where the weather could be very harsh in the winter, a dog was born to Seppala’s family. In the beginning, Seppala did not want the dog because it was small and weak, but his wife Constance insisted on having it. Later on, Seppala found the dog untrainable, and even called him Satan on one occasion for the dog just did not obey. Seppala locked him, but the dog “broke the prison” and chased Seppala and his sledding dog team. To Seppala’s astonishment, the dog actually ran very fast and Seppala moved him to the front of the line and Seppala also named him “Togo” after another underdog, Japanese admiral Tōgō Heihachirō, who was considered the Nelson of the east, (Nelson is a British flag officer in the Royal Navy).
In 1925, there was a Diphtheria outbreak (people were dying) and Seppala took the mission to deliver the Serum to the children in the affected area, Nome. Togo led the sledding dog pack, crossed the snow mountain, went through the breaking ice on the lake, and finally delivered the serum and saved people’s lives.
This reminds me of Joseph Armond Bombardier, who developed the snowmobile in his early age and later on became the founder of Bombardier Inc, for which I worked for 13 years.
Of course, the underdog reminds of David, who defeated Goliath according to the Bible story.
For people who liked adventure, this is a wonderful and inspirational movie.
Togo is a great leader and a loyal friend of Seppala.
